IN A year when melody sneaked through in film music, non-film music found few takers and notwithstanding "Kaanta Laga" receiving Sangeet Natak Akademi's award for Best Contemporary Music, remix kept on burning purists' hearts, following are our winners in different genres.

HINDI FILMS

Jism

Sa Re Ga Ma

M.M. KREEM scored a winner and left listeners demanding an encore. In "Jadoo Hai Nasha Hai" Shreya Ghoshal proved she was seductive here as she was sugary in "Devdas". K.K's "Aawarapan Banjarapan" kept beckoning every time lights became mellow.

Koi... Mil Gaya

Sa Re Ga Ma

RAJESH ROSHAN'S music created more magic than Jadoo. Chitra charmed with "Koi Mil Gaya" and "Idhar Chal Main Udha Chala" simply moved up courtesy seasoned Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. "In Panchiyon" attested Shaan's presence.

Kal Ho Naa Ho

Sony Music

SHANKAR-EHSAAN-Loy could not match "Dil Chahta Hai". Yet the music played a vital part in the film's success. Full marks to Sonu Nigam for the title song and "Mahi Ve" kept the Punjabi flavour in air.

Main Prem Ki Diwani

Hoon

Sa Re Ga Ma

ANU MALIK at his romantic best almost made up for Sooraj Barjatya's blemishes. Chitra and K.K. nifty rendition of "Chali Ayee" gripped the fast track generation. "Aur Mohabbat Hai" marked the arrival of Shaan on the big stage.

Tere Naam

T-Series

HIMESH RESHAMIYA'S soulful tunes were equally responsible for Salman's return. While "Odhni" revived the old charm, Himesh was at his melancholic best in "Tumse Milke Baatein Karna".

Chameli

T-Series

SANDESH SHANDILYA joined the big league with stimulating beats that walloped the heart. "Sajna Ve Sajna" and "Hai Mera Man" substantiated that Sunidhi Chauhan that she has more to offer than credited.

Chalte Chalte

T-Series

JATIN-LALIT'S "Tauba Tumhare Ishare" and Aadesh Srivastva's "Suno Na Suno Na" hit the target. More than Abhijeet and Alka Yagnik's voice, it was Javed Akhtar's words that did the trick.

Andaaz

Sri Krishna Audio

NADEEM-SHRAVAN earthy music was in no way less responsible than the beauty show for the film's surprising success. Kumar Sanu managed to remain in race with "Kisi Se Tum Pyar Karo".

Boom

Sony Music

TAVLIN SINGH, Sandeep Chowta, Punjabi MC and various others managed to shock as much as the film. But the music did well in the party circuit particularly MC's "Mundia Tu Bachke" Groove Armada's "I See You Baby" and "Seduction Savariya" by Sonu Kakkad and Sunita Parthasarthy.

Baghban

T-Series

AADESH SRIVASTAVA'S tunes and Amitabh Bachchan's baritone turned the winds in favour of "Baghban". "Chali Chali Phir Chali" took the youngsters off their feet and "Tu Yahan" brimmed emotions in oldies.

Also vied for attention: Joggers' Park, Tehzeeb, LOC, Pinjar, Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part-2, Qayamat, Ishq Vishq.

Item of the year:

"Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo" from "Dum" kept the parties rocking through out the year. Sonu Kakkad left even Sunidhi Chauhan's efforts in "Dilli Ki Sardi" a distant second.

Non-Film

Shubha Mudgal: Kisson Ki

Chadar

Pankaj Udhas: In Search Of Mir

Rekha Bharadwaj: Ishqa Ishqa

Abhijeet: Tere Bina

Roop Kumar Rathod: Pyar Ka Jashn

Kaanta Laga

DJ Doll, Harry Anand

Saiyan Dil Mein Ana Re

Harry Anand

Aise Na Mujhe Tum Dekho

Viktory Remix, Vikas Bhalla

Chadhti Jawani

Aur Ek Hasina Thi... , Harry

Anand
