A colourful cultural programme on the theme "Unity in diversity" marked the annual day celebrations of the DAV Public School, Sujathanagar last week. The secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission, Swami Amrutanandji Maharaj, who participated as chief guest, appreciated the role of the D.A.V. organisations in imparting education while contributing to character building in children.

He gave away prizes to the students who topped in academics and to those who emerged victorious in various co-curricular and sports events. Navya of Std. VII received a special prize for securing the highest marks in the Std. VII Board examination.

The regional director of D.A.V. South Zone - II, highlighted the contribution and the legacy of D.A.V. to the country and called upon the students to imbibe the great qualities, which were necessary for development of the nation.

The school principal, C.V. Shankar, and the headmistress, Rama Shankar, spoke.

Padma Priya Sahu(Std. VIII) and Shanti Priya Sahu(Std.VI) of Olivet School, Maharanipeta, won medals at the 49th State School Games of AP held at Kakinada from December 21 to 23.

While, Padma Priya won two gold medals, Shanti Priya won a silver meal. Both have qualified to participate in the National School Games Federation Roller Skating Championship to be held in Ludhiana in January.

Neeraja Nambiar, a Std. VIII pupil of St. Joseph's Girls' High School was honoured with the `Kalapuraskaram' of the Kurella Group of Trusts recently. Neeraja gave her first stage performance when she was seven years old. She has bagged a number of prizes at district and State level competitions including the first prize in the State level classical dance competition organised by Vikram Modern Productions in 2002, the second prize at the State level classical dance competition organised by Kalajyothi Theatre and Telefilm unit in 2003 and the Natyaravail Music and Dance Academy in 2002.
