In his dad's footsteps

Auto Sundar on his job.

In these days when men hardly have any time for a stranger in need of help, he comes as a breath of fresh air. Three months into his new job and auto driver, U. Sundara Rao, has already carved a niche for himself as a kind person, who goes out of the way in transporting needy pregnant women to hospitals free of cost.

Inspired by his father, Prakash, whose services towards pregnant women have won all round appreciation and also a number of awards, Sundara Rao quit his job as a car driver in a private firm and decided to follow in his father's footsteps. In three months, he has transported five women to Government hospitals, free of cost. He bid adieu to 2003 by transporting a woman from Muralinagar to the Government Victoria Hospital, a distance of about 15 kilometres, without taking any money, on December 31.

A tip-off that a pregnant woman is in need of help or that she could not afford an autorickshaw to go to a hospital is enough to get Sundara Rao going. He has studied up to Std. VII. Seeing the helping nature of the youth and his devotion to duty, the Pendurthy MLA, P.G.V.R. Naidu gave him Rs.10,000, the B.C. Corporation and a nationalised bank have also given him loans needed for purchase of an autorickshaw.

May his tribe increase.
