Ringing in, in style

It is one night, which everyone looks forward to for a whole year. Fashion shows, dances and musical programmes marked the celebrations at most hotels, clubs and resorts.

The Beach Road was the most sought after venue with revellers literally occupying every inch of the road. Youth zoomed past on their bikes and as the clock struck 12 midnight, they celebrated with hand shakes and shouting out aloud "Happy New Year".

The Ukkunagaram Club organised a cine musical nite by playback singers, Parthasarathy and Nishma. The Sapteswar cine orchestra enthralled the music lovers with Telugu, Hindu and Tamil numbers. A discotheque was arranged at the multi-purpose hall. There was a separate dance floor for youth and couples. The couples danced through the night into the New Year. The kids enjoyed the magic and mimicry show by Srinivas. Earlier, in the evening, fun games were also organised for them.

A grand fireworks display in the backdrop of the night sky, which continued for about half-an-hour, drew the attention of the revellers and the dancing couples also walked out of the closed hall to enjoy the spectacular display.

Green Park: The dipping mercury was no deterrent for the revellers at Hotel Green Park. Revellers of both sexes were seen shaking their legs to the hits belted out by Channel [V] pop finalists, Manjari and Bobby. Pune based dance troupe `Immortals' provided the required impetus to the New Year countdown. Apart from programmes the hotel also spread a lavish buffet comprising over199 dishes. The New Year was ushered amidst a colourful display of pyrotechnics.
