Ration card transfer
I HAVE recently been transferred to this city from Kota, Rajasthan.
I surrendered my ration card at Kota and obtained a certificate to that effect.
In October 2002, I submitted an application form for issue of another ration card along with requisite documents and was given the registration number -- 496 (dated 1/10/2002).
I was assured the ration card would reach me in 3-4 months, but nothing has come out of it.
Repeated follow-ups have yielded no results. Can you help?

Lighting-up woes
EVERY CIGARETTE bears the statutory warning, "Cigarette smoking is injurious to health."
Despite this, quite a large number of people smoke.
None can prevent them because individual liberty is guaranteed in our Constitution.
However, to protect the genuine interests of non-smokers, the government has enacted a law banning smoking in public places.
But, laxity in enforcement has encouraged many smokers to ignore the ban.
This is a dangerous trend.
Authorities should act firmly to safeguard the interests of the non-smoking public, who are unwittingly exposed to potential danger thanks to their compatriots who light up.
