DJs' day out

Five city DJs are coming together again for `Decibel 2004 - Fusion of Frequencies' at Sparks, Hotel Savera

SPARKS AT Hotel Savera is all set to rock Chennai-ites this weekend. Five DJs from the city will come together for `Decibel 2004 - Fusion of Frequencies' on January 16 and 17. This is the second year that they are mixing their music at Sparks.

"The overwhelming response last year has encouraged us to organise this event once again," says Anthony Michael, sales and marketing manager, Savera.

The DJs Arun, Ravi, Wayne, Sid and Anand will showcase their distinct styles while mixing tunes from commercial hits. The air at Sparks will be dominated by hip-hop and R&B on Friday night, while Saturday will have more of club and house.

"We have learnt to respect each other's music and enjoy performing together," says DJ Wayne.

Although clubbing in Chennai is still in a nascent stage, the DJs agree that people here are aware of the different genres of music. "As the crowd on Fridays mainly comprises the young and corporate types, we have decided to play hip-hop," says DJ Ravi, who prefers R&B.

Arun and Ravi, who are resident DJs, say people are now more open to all kinds of music.

Sid, who prefers funky music, says it is not easy to get the crowd moving in the city. A software engineer by profession, he feels that being a DJ helps him reach out to people.
