Spread the message of child rights through kites

KITES FIRST made their appearance in China 3,000 years ago, and have ever since been flown for fun, science, transport, war and a number of reasons. This year, the Hyderabad Council Human Welfare (HCHW) - an NGO working towards the cause of street children, will fly kites for child rights.

The campaign with the theme `Fly kites for child rights' concentrates on creating state-wide awareness for child rights, bringing together the spirit and camaraderie of Sankranti. Under the cause, special kites with inscribed messages will be distributed free to street children, who in turn will be assisted to fly the same in Masab Tank, Hockey grounds. Simultaneously, it will be carried out in all districts of A.P.

"Participants will get an opportunity to interact with celebrities, including film stars, sports personalities and top police officers who are expected to take part in the campaign, and pledge support and solidarity to the cause of child rights," expresses HCHW-founder president and director, Mohd. Rafiuddin.

Four basic rights have been the focus of the NGO, - the right to survival, development, protection and participation. "Children living on the streets are the most deprived, the campaign thus aims to involve them. Wholehearted participation from the society is our sincere request," wishes the HCHW president.

Three special kites are available for Rs. 10 at specific contact points in the city. They can also be delivered at one's doorstep on request for bulk orders, on telephone no: 23536892.
