Flying the commuter way

I CAUGHT up with Air Deccan the other day and I must say it made commuting a very pleasant experience. The lofts for hand baggage may be a trifle narrow, the steps minus a railing on one side, not the most confidence-inducing experience when carrying a rather full briefcase in one hand and shopping bag in the other, but for the rest it offered a most enjoyable flight. A clean aircraft with comfortable seating, ground staff, and each air hostess on board smiling at you through your journey, check-ins fast and painless, baggage delivered quickly (out of the airport within 20 minutes of landing with checked-in baggage) and pay-for-your-snacks inexpensive and quickly served, offering even a new discovery for this stick-in-the-mud: tetrapacked cool coffee (strongly recommended). And all this at a much lower fare - making this traveller, at least, confident that this will soon be the way to travel in a vast country like India.
