Designer Kedar believes in using fashion for spreading environment awareness
|
WHEN ENVIRONMENT is the buzzword today, its ripples are being felt in the fashion world too. Recycling is in - going by what Kedar , does. A designer who is into Western, Indo-Western and ethnic, Kedar can be described as something of an avant-garde couturier. Using left over fabrics picked from various places (including all tailors), he has coutured wearable garments and other accessories. Kedar believes in using fashion to spread the message of environmental awareness. And this journey has begun on a different note - the initiation of Le Promenade - The Fashion Promoters Club.
Kedar wants to rev up the fashion scene in the twin cities. "Fashion is happening in other cities and I want to make Hyderabad a fashion centre too," says Kedar, The idea is to take fashion to the streets through the club. "Normally ramp shows are for a select crowd. The idea is to showcase fashion at popular hangouts like coffee pubs, shopping malls etc. Formed by a trendy group of youngsters, the objectives of the club are to "broaden the fashion scenario of Hyderabad, popularise an upcoming trend, help designers to promote unconventional ideas, spread a positive message like recycling, environmental conservation etc and ultimately do something different and have fun." For the moment, the youngsters have tied up with Kedar. One such show of Kedar's garments was held on December 31 and the models (mostly students) spent time at Nagarjuna Hills, Café Coffee Day and other places.
What was the reaction? "While some were intrigued, others laughed it off. But it is important to familiarise people with fashion. It's not necessary for a person to be a student of fashion. One must have an interest in it." Kedar has more shows (perhaps once a fortnight) on the anvil.
For Sankranti, Kedar brought out a line of shirts and tops inspired by kites in cotton. Generally the image of the kite is not used in clothes. But Kedar's idea was to make people wear the clothes and fly kites as well. This motif is stitched on through appliqué and contrasting stitches.
Kedar is also spinning a new collection (for men and women) - a resort collection for summer inspired by nature. "It will be fresh and the feel of the garments would inspire one to go on a holiday. The dresses, tops, pants, shorts in cotton will have innovative treatment."
Kedar retails from his studio at Vijaya Towers Cellar, shop no 16, Behind Chermas, Ameerpet. (Tel: 98850-89343).
