Playing MGR again

THE CHERUBIC, stocky actor with his infectious, dimple-clad smile won the hearts of not only Malayali movie buffs but also cinema lovers throughout the country with his sensible and sensitive portrayals in films like Kalapani and Company. He won over the national selectors too as a Kathakali performer in Vanaprastham. Mohan Lal hadn't seen much success in recent times, but the actor is bouncing back with Vamanapuram Bus Route, an action-based comedy.

Lal does M.G.R. ishtyle fights to bring justice. He plays an M.G.R. fan and does everything in vadiyar style, including action scenes. The last time Mohan Lal portrayed M.G.R. was in Maniratnam's political statement, Iruvar where his role was tailored on a real life M.G. Ramachandran. But this time in Vamanapuram... , it is more of light-hearted comedy as against the serious version in Iruvar. Mohan Lal is making his Kannada debut playing a key role in Rajendrasingh Babu's Love. Perhaps, trying to test his ground in other regions too.
