On the horizon
A NON-STARTER in Telugu films, Sonia Agarwal has emerged as the new heartthrob of Tamil cinema, posing competition to the likes of Jyothika and Sneha. Her maiden Tamil film, Kadal Kondein with teen sensation Dhanush rewrote box-office history and her next big film, Kovil with Silambarasan (Simbu), released on January 9, opened to full houses. She is soon to do films with Ajith and Vijay too. The actress, it seems, is keen on acting with her generation heroes than with the oldies to retain her fan following among the youth.
Even Hari, known for his action films, deviated from his path of action and has turned to romance and comedy in Kovil produced by A.M. Ratnam, to prove a point. Sonia plays a Christian girl while Simbu is cast as a Hindu boy. Though several inter-faith love stories hit the screen, this is the first for Hari as well as Simbu, both belonging to the action genre. Meanwhile, Sonia has also signed Chadurangam with Srikanth, another successful name in Tamil cinema today. And she makes it a point to add a message before signing an autograph for her fans, from help to the old and the needy to AIDS awareness.
