Delightful Kuchipudi
Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple in M.V.P. Colony witnessed a grand Kuchipudi recital by Gummuluri Krishna Swetha, daughter of G. Rambabu and Indira, noted connoisseurs of fine arts.
Winner of many a laurel, widely travelled and presently a medico at Kakinada, mostly presented compositions of Annamayya besides a Tarangam of Narayana Teertha (Aalokaye Balakrishnam set to Jhanjhuti) and Krishna Maaintiki Raa O (a telugu adaptation of Krishna Nee Begane Baro along with the hauntingly melodious tune in yaman). Her younger brother who has been learning Kuchipudi from the same guru, joined her in most of the items.
Getting off to a sprightly start with the Vijayaka Koutam (Nata), the brother and sister developed a good rapport with the audience. Then they danced their way into the hearts of the audience surfacing the emotional content in the lyrics Bhavayami Gopalabalam through delightful footwork, movement, gesture and Mudra bedies a little mime.
Next, it was a delectable show of the childhood pranks of Balakrishna including the enigmatic leelas like Kaliyamardanam followed by expressive abhinaya for Okaparikokaperi Vayyaramai, Alarulukuriyaga Aadinade, Kondalalonelakonna and Alumelumanga Nee Abhinavaroopamu (set to splendid music by the vocal maestro Nedunuri), all compositions of Annamayya.
Krishna Maaintiki marked grand finale. Their guru Akondi Ramakrishna choreographed and as well provided expert nattuvangam. Evocative vocal support was rendered by Dr. Dwaram, V.K.G. Tyagaraju in the able company of G. Venakta Rao on mridangam, Neeladri Rao on violin and T. Atchutha Rao on flute. Make up by Chiranjivi Rao was good. Compering by Dr. Perala Balamuralikrishna was a special attraction. Chief guest of the evening Nedunuri presented mementos to the artistes.
