L. Subramaniam: class act
TOMORROW, THE genius of L. Subramaniam will match that of Pandit Jasraj in a jugalbandi that will top the ongoing Laxminarayana Global Music Festival.
This annual festival was conceived by Dr. Subramaniam as a tribute to his father, himself a musician.
Pandit Jasraj and the soft-spoken Subramaniam had performed together for the first time before a spellbound audience in Kochi recently. "Panditji is so spiritual, it is a joy to share the stage with him," Dr. Subramaniam said. "It was amazing, we went on for four hours and the audience was asking for more."
The festival has been held in Germany in conjunction with the Berlin Festival, in the U.S.A., Sri Lanka, and Norway among others.
"We are always innovating, always trying to bring in new music and artistes to our audience," Dr. Subramaniam said. "The response in Bangalore has been undoubtedly tremendous," he said, adding that musicians found a ready and enthusiastic audience here, whatever be genre.
Santoor expert Pandit Satish Vyas who participated in the festival whose media associate was The Hindu, said he loved to perform in Bangalore.
In memory of his father, Dr. Subramaniam instituted the Laxminarayana International Award in 1997. Recipients of the award include the likes of Yehudi Menuhin, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer and Jean Luc Ponty.
Tickets to the concert are available at the venue. You can also call 36769311.
