Delightful duo

Ralf Ralf's "The Summit", to be performed this evening, is a unique theatrical production

THE BRITISH Council and Hutch in association with The Park are presenting Ralf Ralf's "The Summit", a unique blend of song, dance, gesture and invented language this evening at 7 p.m. at the Smt. Sivagami Pethachi Auditorium, 179, Luz Church Road (inside the MCTM Chidambaram Chettiyar Higher Secondary School), Mylapore.

"The Summit" takes as its starting point the paraphernalia of diplomacy and war, reducing them to the nervous systems of two brothers in suits. Both timeless and timely, this brilliant piece of work has been performed in every continent worldwide, winning numerous awards.

Jonathan and Barnaby Stone, the duo who form Ralf Ralf, build their performances from physical and vocal cues in which song, gesture and invented language are uniquely and hilariously combined.

About Barnaby and Jonathan - Barnaby has performed in Julia Bardsley's "Macbeth II" at Leicester Haymarket, Graeme Miller's "A Girl Skipping", "The People's Show" and in several films. He has designed and built the sets for Ralf Ralf. Jonathan has worked as an actor at the National Theatre (Volpone) on TV on the Quay Brothers' Institute Benjaminta, contributing to the soundtrack of the film. He has also composed various scores for dance pieces.

In recent years, Jonathan and Barnaby have worked apart, developing their own work. In 2002, Jonathan Stone was given a scholarship to look at ways of reviving their company and resuming the duo's relationship. With encouragement from a number of theatre programmers from the U.K., commissioners and producers, Jonathan and Barnaby embarked on an ambitious but wholly realisable plan for Ralf Ralf, both to revive past work and create new work.
