"A beautiful face is a
silent commendation"
WHEN IT comes to the face, women are unwilling to compromise. And rightly so! Our face is the window to the world.
Open this window into Kochi, and find a wide range of beauty treatments and facials available here. No wonder, ladies in Kochi, are glowing!
Says Shobha Kunjan of Live-in-Style, "Since there is an inclination towards fair skin in Kerala, there is a wide range of facial treatments to lighten the skin. Sun tan can be easily treated in a one-and-a-half-hour sitting through fresh fruits facial and aromatherapy."
Experts are of the opinion that a regular facial need be done only after the age of thirty - once a month. If in your twenties only a partial facial or a clean up is necessary. For those who have a problem skin, the frequency of facials should be twice a month.
Gayatri Rajasekhar, a housewife in her early forties and a mother of two says, "A facial is a time to pamper yourself, once a month, after pampering your family for rest of the 29 days."
Galvanic facials, aromatherapy, herbal facials, regular clean up and many other beauty treatments form the range available in the city.
Says, Shalini of Habibs,
"A galvanic facial with fruit juice using both negative and positive galvanic is a remedy for a pimply skin. It camouflages blemishes as well."
With people reverting to nature and aromatherapy as a popular remedy for skin rejuvenation,
Flory Jolly of Floria vouches for it, citing, " A customer came to me after trying out several treatments for black scars. Now, after a few months of aromatherapy there is a noticeable change in her facial skin. This has given me the confidence to recommend aromatherapy."
Just like silver and platinum jewellery that is in vogue, so are platinum and silver facials. There are also gold and pearl facials. These are done with the relevant pure metal powders, gels, scrubs and cream. This is the revolution in the area of face therapy that came about in the mid nineties.
A good facial can cost roughly, Rs. 300 and above and women do not hesitate in spending on themselves.
Mr. Rohit Varma aptly comments, "Anything to make my wife remain as beautiful as the day I set my eyes on her."
Ms. Mary Mathew, a sexagenarian, has been regular at the beauty parlour for various age related therapies. There are treatments for loose skin, double chin, sagging skin etc. She says, " A facial gives me a self assurance when I look at the mirror and a self confidence when I step outdoors."
With stress being a fallout of the times, relaxation is the need of the hour. The twenty minutes face and shoulder massage that comes in a facial package is extremely relaxing, both for body and mind.
According to Ms. Hafeez, " A facial is taking a bit of time to look good and feel good."
Beena Unnkrishnan of `Pretty Face' says that no two skins being identical, " We have to study the facial skin of each customer before we recommend a particular type of treatment."
Ayurveda, is not behind in beauty therapy. The concept of beauty in Ayurveda is completely different. Dr.Firdous Iqbal, an ayurvedic doctor says, " Beauty is deep rooted. There are many other factors that contribute to a flawless complexion apart from creams and packs." Ayurveda believes in feeding your skin through the food you eat, and drink. The right content of vitamins and minerals consumed, leads to a fine skin complexion . A combination of turmeric, neem and henna are the key ingredients in a herbal face pack.
Dermatologists recommend abrasion for facial blemishes, scars and pigmentation. According to Ms. Hariharan, an anti-pigmentation facial treatment guarantees a ninety per cent chance of erasing a scar, in a total of six sittings.
"Now that the customers want nature friendly products, beauticians are given regular training in the use of the products," says, Ms. Kunjan who uses Beaubelle, Nature's essence and Misty gold, products that are not available locally. Ms. Unnikrishnan says women have to look after their skin or it will give way soon. "You pamper your face and your face, will, in turn make you proud of it." Says she
And so, though not quite true, yet true,
"A pretty face is half a dowry." So, indulge and splurge on your beautiful face. It is worth it.
