Consolidation spree

THE LATEST sensation of Kannada cinema, Darshan Srinivas, has of late, become a competition to himself. In the latter half of last year, two of his starrers were released simultaneously and were proved hits only to be followed by another movie separated by a few weeks.

Darshan's Dasa was a big hit while Nanna Preethiya Ramu (remake of Vikram's Kasi) was a hit too and these two were followed by the above average, Annavru - Rajinikanth's role in Dalapathi. Analumni of Madras Film Institute, model-turned-actor Darshan's first hit came with Majastic (Charminar Nandugaadi Adda in Telugu) and did what the Telugu version could do for Venkat. He later figured opposite Vasundhara Das in Lankesh Patrika and Abhirami in Lali Hadu. The tall teen heartthrob's next film Arya is again with Abhirami and he hopes to consolidate his position further. Paradoxically, while his father `Toogudeepa' Srinivas played villain roles, Darshan started his career as a hero and proved it is not the privilege of heroes' sons only to play the lead roles.
