Metro School Montage


Pallavi Mohanty, a pupil of Class XII in Etasi Timpany School, has bagged the second prize in Group B (English) in the State level essay competition on Oil and gas conservation organised by the Oil industry and the Petroleum Conservation Research Association recently. The Governor, Surjit Singh Barnala, gave away the award to her at a function held in Hyderabad recently.

The 107th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was celebrated at the Kamala Nehru Municipal Girls High School, Railway New Colony. The headmistress, D. Hymavathi, garlanded a portrait of Netaji. A retired librarian of Andhra University, P. Somaraju, advised the students to study the biographies of our national leaders, who had fought for our Independence. He asked them to inculcate the habit of reading newspapers to keep themselves posted with the latest information on various issues.

The librarian of the Government Regional Library, G. Krishna Reddy, spoke.

The students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Waltair, celebrated Pongal in the school premises. The children sang and danced around the `gobbilu' in their colourful half-saris. Amolya (Std. IV) and Bashya (Std. III) explained the importance of the festival to their friends. Some of the children from Std. I to V, dressed as farmers, housewives and village youth to depict a rural scene, where Pongal is celebrated in a traditional manner.

The programme was drafted by Rekha Mittapalli under the direction of Headmistress, Seethamahalakshmi. The principal, C. Aliveni, spoke.

Earlier, the art teacher, Ramchand, told the children about the importance of the festival.

The birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was celebrated at the D.A.V. Public School, Butchirajupalem. The principal, C.V. Shankar, told the gathering that it was Netaji who had coined the slogan, `Jai Hind' and introduced `Janaganamana' as the National Anthem in Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army). He also recalled the daring acts and leadership qualities of Netaji.

Earlier, the National flag was hoisted and tributes were paid. Audio casettes of Netaji's speech and the I.N.A.'s marching song was sung by the students.

The students of Wonworld School, Lawson's Bay Colony, won laurels for their school at the 6th AP State Open Karate Championship organised by the Dragon Force Martial Arts Academy at Seetharampuram village of L. Kota mandal in Vizianagaram district recently. B. Krishna Swamy (Std. IX) bagged the first prize in `E' group, S. Dinesh Reddy of the same class secured the second prize in the `H' group and B. Prasanna (Std. VI) got the 3rd prize in the `C' group. Y. Bhargav Kumar Reddy (Std. V) and Y. Anil Sai Kumar Reddy (Std. IV) bagged the third place among sub-juniors, according to the school principal, K.S. Reddy.

The karate coach, D. Pola Rao, said that it was a rare achievement that a single school bagged five awards at the State-level.
