Metro cultural round-up

The recitation of `Sagaraghosha' by the author, Garikapaati Narasimha Rao (Kakinada), himself marked the special session organised by Visakha Sahithi recently. Reputed litterateur and critic Peri Ravi Kumar of Hyderabad, reviewing the contents, said: ''Rao is a peer to the great avadhaanis of the past like the Tirupathi kavulu and their contemporaries Kopparapu brothers.

His poetry stands testimony to his outstanding ability contemperating and interpretting his own poetic imagery which in itself is an empathetic reflection of his elated heart and soul with that of the ever effulgent and the all-time relevant observations embedded in the epics, the Mahabharata in particular.

Each and every one of the hundreds of verses in the padyakaavyam makes every reader feel that a picturesque canvas of whatever the author felt contemplating on the process of the unending tides of the ocean one after the other as if they are leaves of the history of the mankind from the remote past till to date''.The sahithi president, K. Malayavasini, who was in the chair, the renowned litterateur, Ganapathiraju Atchutarama Raju, the Telugu professor of Nagarjuna University, Tammareddy Nirmala, Nemani R. Sanyasi Rao and the sahithi joint secretary, V. Vasudeva Rao,critically assesed the kaavyam. Raju and the noted poet B.V. Bangarraju felicitated Narasimha Rao on the occasion.

The sahithi secretary, Jampana Kumara Varma, compered the programme and proposed a vote of thanks.

The function organised by Sai Kalaniketan in the Prema Samajam Hall recently as part of its project of featuring poetic plays on the second Friday of every month (in progress for about 10 years) had a special attraction. It was the monoaction of the lead role from the mythological play, 'Gayopaakhyaanam' in poetic diction by the Std.II school boy, Saagi Sangameswara Dixit. Born on December 16, 1997, Dixit made his debut on the stage when he wasnot even five years old, thanks to the all-round encouragement of his parents Murali Krishna and Lakshmi.

On November 17, 2002, he performed Ekapaatraabhinaya of the role of Krishna from the same play. It is amazing that the lad just in a span of one year, mastered the art, taking up another character, the lead role Gaya itself, and came a long way honing his in-born talent to be in popular demand with about 10 such performances along with an almost equal number of laurels to his credit today.

Durgaprasad's eldest brother Sambasiva Sastry and his wife Lakshmi felicitated Bulusu. The melodious rendering of select poems from the kaavyam, `Muvva', authored by Bulusu by the noted connoisseur of literature and music, Vepa Parvatheesam, in ragas like Kalavathi, Hamsadhwani, Maund, etc., marked the evening.
