Pongal box-office results

THE MOST baffling thing about Pongal releases is that there are no blockbusters or super hits, though the producers are claiming their films are hits. But none of them is willing to show the collection reports. It is still early days, but "Virumaandi" is the only film that has taken a decent opening at the box-office. The film is drawing the upper class audience, but whether it will sustain remains doubtful, as in smaller stations it is already sliding. "Engal Anna" has emerged the dark horse and is being appreciated for its light comedy though collections are average. It may break even after the film hits the C centres. "Kovil" too opened well but collections have tapered off. Finally, the law of averages has caught up with Dhanush as "Puthukottayilirundu Saravanan" after a good opening has dropped dramatically and distributors say they will lose their money as it was purchased for a high price. Nobody is even talking about "Jai", which seems to be a losing proposition.
