Busy Lizzy is ideal for hanging baskets, borders and window boxes.

PLANTS OF the genus Impatiens (like Busy Lizzy) are bushy, succulent stemmed and perpetually flowering. They belong to the family Balsaminaceae and their place of origin is Zanzibar.
The plants were given the botanical name because of the apparent impatience with which they discharge their seeds when ripe, and their common name because of the persistence with which they flower.
The plant is low growing and has shiny, pointed bronze-red, elliptic leaves about seven cms long. Pink, white or red flowers about four cms across are produced at the tips of the stem that are light bronze and watery.
These plants should not be subjected to direct sunlight, but they do need bright light. Normal room temperature is suitable for growth. Place plants on saucers of moist pebbles. Mist-spray the foliage daily and water it moderately. Never let the soil dry out completely. Apply standard liquid fertilizer every two weeks. The plant fails to bloom if it is in much too large a pot where new roots find space to grow at the expense of flower production.
Propagation is by seed or soft cuttings. Growing Busy Lizzy, which is colourful and long-flowering plants, is trouble-free.
The plants are ideal in hanging baskets, borders and window boxes and marvellous for mixed bedding.
