Fruity face packs

Here are a few homemade face packs with fresh fruits and nuts.

FRESH FRUITS are not only good to eat but are also used in beauty treatments. Fruits are a storehouse of Alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA) or fruit acids, which lift dead skin cells away to reveal clear skin beneath. Instead of buying a fruit pack off the shelf, you can whip up some skin-friendly, nourishing masks right at home, says beautician Laila Kakade.

Very strawberry: "Strawberry is an excellent fruit for oily skin. To make a pack, take a handful of strawberries and chop them. Add the juice of one lemon to half-a-cup of yoghurt and blend them well. Refrigerate for 30 minutes and apply on the face and neck, avoiding the area around the eyes. Apply again when the pack begins to dry. Leave on for 20 minutes and rinse by rubbing gently into the skin," says Laila.

Peppy papaya: To rejuvenate tired, jaded and dry skin, papaya is the fruit. "Take two to three slices of papaya. De-seed and grind in a blender. Add half a cup of yoghurt and whip. Apply to the face and neck, again avoiding the eyes. When the pack starts to flake, apply some more. Keep it on for 20 minutes and wash off."

Nourishing almonds: Almonds are excellent for blemished skin. "Take 10 to 15 almonds and grind them fine. Add half-a-cup of yoghurt and make a smooth paste. Apply on the face and neck, avoiding the area around the eyes. Keep on the paste for 20 minutes and wash off."

Amazing orange: "Orange is the fruit for baby soft skin. Take three tablespoons of orange peel powder that's been dried in the sun. Add a few dried rose petals, one teaspoon of honey and enough milk to make a thick paste. Apply on the face and neck (avoiding the eyes). Keep it on for 20 minutes and wash off," says Laila. So the next time you go for a facial, choose the fruit that's works the best for you.
