Paradise revisited
|
Paradise has turned 50, and Persis Gold is an extension of the legacy of providing good food at affordable prices
|
LONG HOUSED in a conspicuous corner on one edge of the busy M.G. Road, Paradise is one of those few restaurants which is known for its Hyderabadi biryani.
Half a century in the business of food has given this unpretentious family-friendly restaurant a kind of popularity so far unknown to others.
Little wonder why Paradise is as busy as the road outside. At any given time of the day, to find a seat here is one extraordinary possibility, - the existing three-storeyed space appears to be perennially packed with guests gorging on without end.
Recently another 7,000 square feet of space has been added to the restaurant as Persis Gold (commemorating golden jubilee of the restaurant) to accommodate an additional 300 people. Ambitious plans in the pipeline include a banquet hall with a capacity of 1,000 people, a Lebanese and Persian restaurant and a rooftop barbecue-café, expected to come up shortly.
From a small-time Irani chai café in 1953 adjoining the earlier-Paradise theatre to the evolution of a multi-cuisine restaurant frequented by thousands every day, and now an addition of Persis Gold, very few eating-places have prospered as noticeably as Paradise. So much so that people pack biryani and kebabs for family and friends away in Mumbai, or the Gulf.
There's a reason why Paradise makes them day after day, year after year, and it isn't cash alone. Instead, it is fed by the love to feed and satisfy more and more mouths. With a mission statement: quality food at affordable prices in the best of ambience, - the restaurant can easily boast of keeping up the tradition of good food. A claim, clients can hardly argue with.
Persis Gold is an extension of the legacy. With an ambience typical of any three-star property, the massive food-court dishes out a multitude of cuisines and teems with people tucking away biryani and other delicacies with a remarkable rapidity thanks to the flavour and aroma. Done up beautifully in marble and wood, Persis Gold has a classically contemporary ambience that is warm and welcoming. Esoteric lighting adds to the appeal. The garden-like atrium has been transformed into a glass fountain with some greenery thrown in for aesthetics, and pleasure of the waiting customers. Wooden seats have also been provided.
Prices have not changed, although one can spot variations of items in the menu. After all making money is a by-product - customer's satisfaction is paramount, and the only thing that matters most in this gastronome's paradise.
