Quite earnest
"TENDRAL", THE third film from Thankar Bachchan is releasing today and it is another gutsy endeavour from a director who has been trying to graduate to more mature films within the commercial format. As Thankar says: "I have tried to explore the relationship between man and woman without using the thali sentiment, usually seen in Tamil cinema." The story of "Tendral" revolves round the life of a writer Nalankilli (Parthibhan) who wants to reform society through his writings. And Thankar in his cinematic style has expressed his views on the Tamil nationalist movement, preserving Tamil culture and his viewpoint on the Cauvery issue through his protagonist. Underplayed emotions are the hallmark of his films and here too, he has drawn out a stunning and subdued performance from Parthipan and Uma. And now it is for the producer "Oscar" Ravichandran to promote "Tendral" aggressively and create a niche market for such middle-of-the-road films.
