Top honours elude Mani
RECENTLY, A private Malayalam satellite channel screened The Guard, a unique feature film. The film has just one actor in the star cast, Kalabhavan Mani, who played a forest guard. His co-artistes are animals and birds. He did it again as a blind singer in Lakshmiyum Vasanthiyum Pinne Nanum (LVPN) that was remade into Tamil with Vikram as Kasi and now under production in Telugu with R.P. Patnaik.
Mani's comic villainy in Gemini might not have won the applause of Telugu audiences but the Tamil viewers and the industry went ga ga over his performance and he is now flooded with offers. Charan, who introduced him to Tamil audiences with Gemini, has turned him into a comedian with his latest hit, Joot. Mani's recent Malayalam release, Malsaram (competition), is running well all over Kerala.
Somehow, top honours are eluding this ace actor who had missed the national award for LVPN by a whisker and had to be content with the second best actor award from the Kerala government.
