AFTER THE hectic women's finals, Mercedes owners in the South participated in the corporate tournament sponsored by Daimler-Chrysler for Merc owners and special invitees. The Mercedes trophy is played at four regional centres, the winners of which get to play in the all-India final at Daimler Chrysler's headquarters in Pune. The winners of the final make the grade to play at the international tournament in Germany in an all-expenses-paid trip, including a visit to the factory plant.
Explaining the concept behind the Mercedes Tournament, Herr Hans-Michael Huber, CEO of Daimler Chrysler, said that customers of the Mercedes cars and sports vehicles are not just one- time buyers.
They forge a relationship with the company and are advised on upgrading, resale, and maintenance of the vehicles. The company thought a golf tournament would be an ideal way to keep the relationship going and the visit to the plant in Germany would show the customers how much detail goes into the manufacture of the cars. The golf event in Germany is usually a huge affair with team spirit running high.
Herr Huber has, incidentally, just taken to playing the game himself and he enjoys every moment he spends on the golf course. He was very impressed with the KGA, and along with his three kids and wife, had an enjoyable day in the city. Members at the KGA were given an exclusive preview to the range of Mercedes cars and the most popular car on display was the M-Class, which is being retailed at Rs. 46 lakh.
