The election pie

WILL POLITICAL parties be allowed to advertise on satellite channels as the propaganda machinery gears up for the next elections? All the 106-odd channels, including the 47 devoted to news and current affairs, are eyeing the nearly Rs.300-crore election pie. But there is fear that some of the advertising may be libellous which can lead to litigations. Added to that, there are no guidelines especially after the ban on political advertising was lifted after the Andhra Pradesh High Court responded to a petition. Now, the Election Commission will have to take a call on this sensitive issue.
