City skaters bring laurels



Some of the rollers-skaters from Visakhapatnam who represented A.P in the National School Games held in Kakinada recently, with their coaches.

Roller-skating is a popular sport in the city and many of its boys and girls have won medals in the State and National meets. Hundreds of children practise roller-skating, and the city has several many major roller-skating meets.

The latest success of the city roller-skaters was at the National School Games meet held at Kakinada recently in which they played a prominent role for AP claiming the runner-up position. G. Santosh Ashwini Kumar of Balaji Public School picked up three gold medals, while N. Navya of Bethany School claimed two golds.

The other Vizag roller-skaters who contributed to the AP kitty were K. Manoj Kumar of Siva Sivani School (one gold, one silver), N. Kireeti Raju of Timpany School (one gold, two bronzes), P. Padmapriya Sahu of Olivet School (one gold, one bronze), M.S. Lazar of St. Joseph's School (one gold), S. Brahmateja of Timpany School (two silvers and one bronze), P.K.S. Viswanath of Siva Sivani School and P.P. Prudhvi of Kotak Salesian School (one silver and one bronze each), Rupal Dhillon of Siva Sivani School and P. Santi Priya Sahu of Olivet School (one silver each) and P.P. Nirmal of Kotak Salesian School and Pragithaka Dadich of Vikas Junior College (one bronze each).The skaters were coached by the physical education teacher of PEN School, Karanam Gangadhar, while the PET of Mrs.A.V.N. College High School, V.V. Sriram Kumar, was the manager.

The District Educational Officer and president of the School Games Federation, Surendra Reddy, and the SGF organising secretary, A.Ch. Satyanarayana Raju, congratulated the Visakhapatnam skaters on their good show in the National.
