As fresh as before

RELEASED 24 years ago, the last of the black-and-white super hits, Maro Charitra still found favour with Madan Patel, a Kannada producer. He is remaking its Kannada version with his son Mayur and Tanu Roy of Itlu Sravani... fame in the lead roles. Tamil director Bharathi Kannan is following the path laid by veteran K. Balachander but says that it will not be a photocopy of the original version. He has made slight modifications keeping in mind the present `cell phone' generation. SPB's award-winning rendition Tere Mere Beech me... from its Hindi version, Ek Duje Ke Liye (composers: Lakshmikant-Pyarelal) is the only tune retained by S.A. Rajkumar. Though christened Prema Charitra first the makers found it to be too old-fashioned and changed it as Love Story.
