An awards night was organised by P.E.N. School at Gurajada Kalakshetram recently. Participating as chief guest on the occasion, Police Commissioner, B. Prasada Rao, underlined the role of educational institutions in moulding students into better citizens of tomorrow. He commended the Pen School founder, Anita Pereira, for the outstanding results being obtained by the school every year. He said it was the responsibility of parents and teachers to teach children not to tolerate corruption in later life.

Ms. Anita spoke about the role played by the school, in turning out better citizens, since its inception 20 years ago.

The students of the Dabagardens and Akkayyapalem branches of the school, who excelled in sports, conduct and showed diligence were given awards by the chief guest. K. Prashant and Ranjani (Std. X) and Tejeswi and Soujanya (Std. VII) bagged the E.J. Pereira and S.E. Pereira scholarships.

Sixty kids of the nursery class presented rhymes. The play, `The Merchant of Venice' enacted by the students drew cheers from the gathering. The students presented a number of dances and variety cultural programmes.

A painting and science exhibition was organised by Chaitanya Public School at its premises at B.C. Road, Gajuwaka, recently. The students displayed their paintings and the science models at the exhibition, which was inaugurated by poet, Sivasagar, and the founder of the Annapurna Charitable Society, Annapurna.

P. Sricharan, a Std. X pupil of Olivet School bagged the prestigious `Young genius award' by obtaining the first rank at the district-level in the 9th Sir C.V. Raman State level Talent Search Examination conducted by the Viswabharathi Foundation early this month. Sricharan would receive the award at the Telugu Lalitha Kala Thoranam in Hyderabad on March 7, according to the school principal, Sunitha Nair.
