Toying with ideas
TOYS AND dolls are not merely play things. They can help children learn about the mysteries, traditions, faiths and mores that serve as a guide to adult life. So, on the basis of their function, toys are classified into educational, scientific and interactive categories.
The National Folklore Support Centre is organising a `Design workshop for folk toy makers of South India' from March 23 to 27 at Alliance Francaise of Madras.
The workshop aims to create new prototypes for traditional toy makers with design assistance from NIFT for better marketability and enhancing export potential. Runika Tiwari and Satish Babusenan from NIFT will coordinate the workshop.
Niralaxmi Palai, deputy director, Development Centre for Musical Instruments, Office of the Development Commissioner, Handicrafts, Chennai, will inaugurate the workshop and Jean Pascal Elbaz, director, Allaince Francaise, will preside over the programme.
