SUMMER'S here
|
Try these simple do's and don'ts and sail through summer.

SUMMER IS almost here. Getting from hot and hotter. Instead of fretting about the heat, why not try and beat it and finally enjoy it, this time. Here arte some tips to sail through summer.
This weather doesn't allow for any other clothes than cotton or cotton-blends. Pure cotton and handloom are the best for the hot and humid summer months. Cotton dresses and saris have the advantage of being cool. Children are best in cotton T-shirts, frocks, skirts and loose half pants. During summer avoid dark coloured dresses since these colours absorb heat. Loose and light clothes are most suitable for hot days.
Avoid wearing shoes if you can. Wear sandals or chappals instead and if it is a must, in your office or school, wear cotton socks, as these absorb perspiration. Open sandals are ideal for children. Keep jewellery to a minimum. Heavy or large ornaments are a definite no-no. Long, dangling necklaces are not suitable and a thin chain should suffice.
A daily bath is sometimes insufficient during summer months. Bathing twice or more is common and keep one cool.
Avoid eating oily foods. Drink as much water as you can. Juices, salads etc. should be included in your diet. A light make - up is ideal for these hot days. Application of too much foundation cream can make you sweat more than usual thereby running off the make - up.
A sunscreen is a must for daily use. To get rid of tan, mix together equal quantities of olive oil and vinegar. Apply on the affected area, 15 minutes before the bath. To prevent the effects of sunburn, mix 1 tsp of potato juice with 1 tsp lemon juice and leave it for 15 minutes. Wash after sometime. Repeat for a few days until the tan is lightened.
If you are blessed with a normal skin, rub leftover fruits on the face and neck. This helps restore glow and smoothness to your skin, which is lost due to excessive heat. Milk curdles often during summer. This can be put to good use as moisturiser for dry skin. The problem of cracked lips, during summer, can be tackled by applying crushed fenugreek seeds mixed with milk. During summer there is a tendency for the skin to excrete more oil than usual. Thus oily and sweaty look, from the face, can be got rid off by sponging dry with salt and water. So, welcome summer happily by putting into practise these simple and helpful steps.
