Styles of the season
STUDIO SAKS focusses on Kolkata this time. "Mantra," an exhibition on at the studio till March 28, showcases creations by Nandita Thirani, Preeti Jhawar and Swapan and Seema, and accessories by Lador.
The designers from Kolkata have worked together in conformity with the theme of the season, spring-summer. The colour palette is bright and the style, a mix of Indian and Western for both day and evening wear. The fabrics are fluid and sensuous, blending crepe, georgette and chiffon.
Nandita Thirani's designs under the label Anudhi are a blend of eastern detailing with western cuts — halter tops, tubes and summer wraps. Trousers teamed with embroidered shirts and scarves are a hit. She has used aari, gota and zari embroidery artistically.
Preeti Jhawar's collection of Indo-Westerns are bold and vivacious, sexy and stylish. Available in colours such as deep yellow, burnt orange and pink, her creations are meant for those with slim silhouettes.
Class, style and elegance mark the creations of Swapan and Seema who have designed a unique collection of saris and kurtas for Studio Saks.
Trendy and feminine, the accessories by Lador designed by Alka Dalmia and Sonal Murarka — necklaces, earrings and bracelets in silver— can complement any ensemble.
