DIABETES IS on the rise in the world with about 32 million diabetics in India alone. According to an estimate by the World Health Organisation by 2030, about 370 million will be affected by diabetes in the world. So, believing that communication is the best method of prevention and management (in case of occurrence) of the disease, Novo Nordisk India Pvt. Ltd., recently announced the Novo Nordisk Media Prize 2004 award for the best article on diabetes published in any language publication in India between July 1, 2003 and April 30, 2004.
The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 75,000 for the best article and an entry to Novo Nordisk Global Media Prize 2004, which has a Euro 10,000 prize. The second and third prizes will be awarded Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 35,000 respectively.
The print media award for `excellence in diabetes writing' is based on two rounds: The first is a national-level contest for choosing three best articles and the second is a global competition for which the best article from each country will be chosen to be sent.
