A warm welcome to a woman Chief Minister
|
Irrespective of their sex, almost all respondents to the question: "Should the State have a woman Chief Minister?" replied in the affirmative. These responses showcase the confidence people are reposing in women in general.

"It is impossible to think about the welfare of the world unless the condition of women is improved. It is impossible for a bird to fly on only one wing."-Swami Vivekananda.
Women now in politics have been able to put forth their share of ideas and views in the decision-making machinery which was earlier under the full control of patriarchal gods. Shiela Dixit and Jayalalithaa as Chief Ministers of Delhi and Tamil Nadu are shining examples of women's political empowerment. Woman is the Grihalakshmi, the pivotal point of familial universe synonymous to motherland. Both of them sustain life. A nation's (State's) progress and prosperity can be judged by the way it treats the women leaders. So we must recognise and accept the fact that a woman as a Chief Minister well understands her people as a mother understands her child.

I feel there is no difference of duties/responsibilities for a Chief Minister based on gender. People look at the Chief Minister as an individual not as a man or woman. In the present society, women enhanced their position by provoking themselves. Let's take the example of Kalpana Chawla, who wanted to reach out to the stars. She created history by becoming the first Indian woman to go in a NASA's rocket into space, a task most men failed to achieve. Women in power attract more curiosity and, frequently, more hostility than men in power. So, a woman has to be dynamic, foresighted and forward thinking. And women are more patient, tolerant, methodical and hard working than men. It's a universally accepted fact. So they can prove themselves in the hot bet of politics. It's not a bad idea to have a woman Chief Minister.

Today women are making rapid strides in almost every sphere of life. They are coming of age. Many women have entered the political foray. But they are not being given fair chance. I think our State should have a woman Chief Minister. All the political parties are shouting aloud that they are giving due importance to women. But, that is a lie. If a woman becomes the Chief Minister, the women issues will be addressed more effectively. Women are always considered to be dedicated to their work from ages. And, they are dynamic. A State cannot improve without the women issues being resolved. And, it is a woman Chief Minister who can solve these issues. All these years, which have gone by, our State didn't have a single woman Chief Minister, nor did the successive governments try to solve women's issues. The best example I can quote to prove this is the non-implementation of Woman's Reservation Bill. The female infanticide is also on the rise. If a woman takes decisions, there is no need for appeasing others for what she does, since she herself is a woman. And, there is one more reason why a woman is not considered for Chief Minister's post: that is women cannot take decisions in a daring manner which is a necessary prerequisite of a Chief Minister. But, it is just a prejudiced opinion. Indira Gandhi and Jayalalalithaa proved themselves what they are. It is high time a woman be given a chance to be the Chief Minister of our State.

Politics nowadays have been marred by violence and malpractice. Money power, disinformation campaign and violent methods have started playing a big role in elections. In such a situation, women, who are capable of improving the state cannot withstand the stress and adopt their ways to implement their ideas without the cooperation of everyone. The future of democracy depends on how a woman meets the challenges. As the present Chief Minister is providing a special place for women in society, it is not a must for the State to have a woman Chief Minister for the present.

When we talk about leadership, it's all about managing people and making things happen in the right way. A Chief Minister has to deal with a lot of sections and divisions. Practically it's impossible for a person to touch every field and extract the best out of it. So it demands everyone work towards the agenda. Sex doesn't matter to hold the post of a Chief Minister, but all we need is a person who can better analyse and place our State ahead of others. The person needs to experience what all it takes and must face the challenges. But of course, acceptance from the team and proving oneself as a leader are the slab requirements, which is obviously a tough job. But, I couldn't find any woman leader who is capable enough to hold the post.

In modern India, women are the builders of the nation. They have excelled in various spheres of life as politicians, orators, poets, scholars, doctors, diplomats, ministers and ambassadors. Distinguished women like Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, Sarojini Naidu and Aruna Asaf Ali had established their worth to the curious gaze of orthodox Indians and to the reverent amazement of the world. One of the ablest politicians of our country, Indira Gandhi, had created a record by becoming the Prime Minister of India. Women have assumed more responsibilities not only for themselves and their family, but also for the country and for the good government of the world. The day is not far when the Indian women will not only catch up with their western counterparts but regain their honourable status they enjoyed in the distant past. So, our State should also have a woman Chief Minister.

In my view, the State should have a woman Chief Minister. Several States in India are privileged to have woman chief ministers. But, Andhra had none. Andhra Pradesh is setting new trends in all fields, on its journey to glory. So our Sstate should have a woman Chief Minister who is studded with the traits of dedication, hard work and sincerity to lead the State in the right path and proving to be a good leader.

If such an unavoidable situation arises, the woman Chief Minister must not be like Jaya or Maya. People are afraid of their ignorance or arrogance. All brilliant, Rabri is no exception. AD 2020 is far enough, if ever it is all set to favour the Women's Bill. At least once, instead of three times out of the 10 consecutive Assembly elections, people of the State do not mind having Bhuvaneswari Naidu's Government too.

Women are regarded as Wise, Optimistic, Most respected, Enthusiastic and Nationalist. So, why should not they be accepted as leaders even. Where do we find 33 per cent reservations in politics? With the idea for equal opportunities being heard frequently, there has been a phenomenal change in the personalities of women. At present, we have woman CEOs and MD's. Have they become talented overnight? Obviously, not. Their success can be attributed to the opportunity they are provided with. We find right from a great and powerful leader like Indira Gandhi to the present Uma Bharthi, and Sushma Swaraj, to quote a few, registering good performance.
Moreover, in these days of `politricks', if given a chance, women could contribute to women welfare that is mostly overlooked with all sincerity. "Behind everyman's success, there is a woman." And guess! what would be the performance, if a woman herself is in the front. We need efficient leaders rather than gender differences. A woman Chief Minister would not be a bad idea.

Gone are the days when women used to be confined to their household chores. The scenario has totally changed. Women became independent and are able to achieve anything under the sun. For a country like ours, it is necessary to have leaders who can handle situations tactfully. At the same time, they must be able to satisfy the needs of the people. In my opinion, women are basically patient and this would help them analyse situations and draw meaningful solutions. And, surely given a chance to become the Chief Minister of a State, they would be able to develop it well. We see many women who have already reached commendable positions of CEOs, Chief Secretaries, Mayors, Governors, Prime Ministers etc. This gives us an additional proof that women have the calibre to lead the country, leave alone the State. Women have also been able to make excellent contributions to the country. She has realised her abilities and always look forward to contributing her abilities for the country. They also possess a plus point because of their negotiating skills which would help them solve problems efficiently. Therefore, I personally feel that if a woman is given a chance to become the Chief Minister, it would turn out to be a very important phase in our country's development.

My opinion is that the State can have a woman as its Chief Minister. The myth that politics are meant only for men is disappearing slowly from the minds of people. Today's politics have become so polluted that people want to have a radical change and they are also willing to vote for woman candidates. A Woman can understand the problems of people very easily compared to men. Today's women have confidence, determination and freshness in their approach. Recent elections showed that women are slowly beginning to maintain a stronghold in politics and they are the most favoured by common people. So, I think woman can definitely become the Chief Minister of the State.

My answer to the above question is `yes'. And moreover, I state, "It is not the question of the Chief Minister being a man or a woman." He/she should possess the leadership qualities and should be dare enough. He/she should be very careful in decision making, because it is a position where a person has a lot of stress and pressure in decision-making. They should keep in mind all sections of people. Women should know more techniques and methods to become good chief ministers. So, I conclude that it is the leadership qualities that make a Chief Minister. It can be a man or a woman.

Of course, women are equally capable of becoming chief ministers. In today's fast-moving world, one looks at any individual not as a man or a woman, but as a human being who is capable of doing anything. Women in today's world are efficient and capable of doing things as a man does. Moreover, there are many examples where women have proved much better because of their sincere efforts and commitment. Women have put their hands in every field -- be it science, technology or politics. Politics is not at all a new field for women. Women have been here along with men since the days of freedom struggle. They have equally supported and guided the whole nation. Some successful women are Indira Gandhi, Benazir Bhutto and Sushma Swaraj and the list is endless. So, I feel that a woman can make a good Chief Minister. They should be given an opportunity.

Certainly, the State can have a woman as Chief Minister. For, women are able to compete with men in every field. In the present elections, we can see how women candidates are coming forward to contest. And, the political parties are giving seats depending on the candidate's capability rather then their gender. Women had already proved their capabilities in politics. Indira Gandhi as the Prime Minister of India is just the best example. And Sarojini Naidu became the first governor of a State in India. Women are coming out of their homes and crossing their hurdles. Women nowadays are being given equal importance because of their active participation. In olden days, people used to think that going out of home is not good for a woman. To run a government, one should need patience and should manage things efficiently. I believe women have all these qualities more than men.
So, I prefer a woman Chief Minister.

In my opinion, this great post can be perfectly managed by a woman, as she is concerned of her own principles and morals. The ideal examples are Rabri Devi, Uma Bharthi etc.
She can understand the problems and hunger of people like a mother and solve them. She treats the State as her own house and tries to keep it clean and green always.
By doing so, she would teach a lesson to the people who are ill-treating women and preventing them from coming out of their houses.
She proves that a woman cannot only handle the house but also a State very skilfully.

The State must have a woman Chief Minister. She can rule the State like she manages her family. She can think before doing any thing.
The many problems like dowry systems, eve-teasing, rapes, slavery can only be understood by a woman. A woman Chief Minister can handle these problems effectively. She will be strict and sincere about the work. Every woman can seek the support of a woman Chief Minister to get their problems solved.

The idea is very good. There are a lot of things to be done by a woman Chief Minister. But, she should not be the wife of a politician, who may come to power because of any reservation. Nor should she be a puppet like the woman chief minister of one of the States in the country. She should be highly educated, have a good knowledge of the constitution and people's problems. She should be guided by the constitution and not by anything else.
The psychological character of firmness, motivation for development, unbiased approach towards anybody or anything, a good knowledge of languages like Telugu, English, Hindi and Urdu, a morality based secularism are the musts for a Chief Minister. Development would be abundant, if such a woman is made the Chief Minister.

In my opinion, if a woman is made the Chief Minister, she can set new trends. The State should have a woman Chief Minister. As per research reports of many countries, women have more ruling ability than men. She can also give good support to Women's Reservation Bill. Recent elections in some States like Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi, people elected women as chief ministers.
It is a welcome trend in our politics. If there is an educated woman, the whole family will enjoy a good position in society. Similarly, if the State has a capable woman Chief Minister, it will be developed on all fronts.
Women have self-confidence, nature to do hard work, stability and patience more than men. A woman Chief Minister would be the source of inspiration to people who have negative opinion about girls' education.
