Perfect Ambience

Mubin Sultan finds a discerning eye for out of the ordinary aesthetic sense in Chebrolu Gandhi and Lakshmi

THERE IS no match to the imaginative reach of Gandhi and Lakshmi living in their scintillating domicile which they nourished as a baby until it reached maturity, just enough to stand up to the word "perfect".

Draped in a picturesque robe of greenery, the couple succeeded in bringing up an abode that would take any entrant to a world that may rather feel like a lobby of a star hotel in Puerto Rico or San Marino than Guntur.

The artistic doors with chiselled depictions of floral glory and the love of Radha and Krishna would leave any guest wonder about how fabulous the interiors could be. It is hard to expect that the artisitic genius of a couple defining simplicity can be so gorgeous. Gandhi, a very busy businessman managing the tobacco industry of Chebrolu Hanumiah & Sons Private Limited, is the interior designer for his home and one can say that he did it with utter care and loyalty. A testimony to this is the neat and orderly arrangement of art-pieces collected from the local markets. "We have a variety of art here in our own place and a home can be beautifully decorated with these works-of-art by the local artisans than by imported goods", says Gandhi, who loves collecting the idols of Vinayaka and has so many of them that your eye can catch one anywhere you look. Be it any size, posture or metal, Gandhi has them all.

Drawing inspiration from books on interiors which had ethnic touch, a huge black glass having two tall African pigmies like statutes on either side in their living room with wooden furniture suiting the mood of the room is eye-catching .The splendid crystal works like the magnificent vases, a replica of the Petronas twin-towers, the laughing Buddhas reflect the lights creating an all the more elegant ambience added to which is the verve of the dwellers with which it has been decorated, making the living room more than just a living room.

Lakshmi and Gandhi have painted their home in a unique way with the brushes of local artists, who unbelievably share a potential close to the Royal Artists of Great Britain and this cannot be believed unless one witnesses the huge but delicate works of oil-on-canvas on the walls which share the space with the wooden sculptures of Pallavan Art from Tamil Nadu.

If the ground floor represents an exotic picture overlooking a beautiful garden, the top floor, with imposing upholstery, has an indigenous touch of Rajasthani and Mughal styles, which would serve best to hold a rendezvous or a family get-together.

The bedrooms of Hemanth and Anil doing their MBA in UK and MS in Australia respectively, speak their mind even in their absence. While Hemanth, an enthusiastic sports person has chosen to decorate his room with the innumerable medals and awards; Anil's expensive music system shows his passion for music.

Lakshmi takes pleasure in taking care of her home and retaining its beauty with two maids to help her. Her exuberant garden has been winning her prizes for the past three years.

It is more the warmth and hospitalilty of the couple which adds a ray of nostalgia to the minds, beckoning every visitor to come back again.
