SHOONYA, SOUND OF SILENCE
Times Music, Rs.65
THIS COLLECTION of philosophical verses has been sung by Anandmurti Gurumaa, who has penned the lyrics and composed the tunes too. Though the sound of silence is more to be felt than heard, these tunes are soothing enough. The musical arrangement is by Kanchman Babbar, who has made use of the usual electronic keyboards along with bass and acoustic guitars, violin, percussions and other instruments. The singer has an attractive husky voice suited to the nirgun philosophy that runs through most of the lyrics. The first composition, "Nee Main Jaana" sets the tone of the wandering minstrel, with accompanying music is on the whole unobtrusive, as it should be in such a case where the words are important. Though some songs may veer towards the light music mode of music for decoration's sake, the last song on Side B, "Alaph Allah" is accompanied only by the sound of blowing wind, and with a slight reverb on the voice, has a stirring effect.
SEVEN - SPECIAL ASIA TOURS EDITION
UNIVERSAL, Rs. 150
THIS IS Enrique Iglesias's seventh career album and the Indian release coincided with his recent tour to Mumbai and Bangalore. All the 18 numbers with four bonus tracks have the same lilt and flow so typical of this Spanish sensation. Among them, the numbers that floats up to the top is the "Not in Love", "Hero" and "Addicted".
And yes, if not Anna Kournikova, you should have at least somebody to sing these intense, romantic numbers.
