Delicious digression

IN THESE days of `feel good' talk, here comes a feel-good film. It has a pleasantness to it that is quite endearing. And absolute lack of melodrama, which is so refreshing. It also has bright frames with the cinematographer getting a chance to explore the sylvan environs and silhouettes of stately England like seldom before.
The film also has good faces, the kind which would never scream for attention in a public place, yet one would not mind having a second look at.
It has a lilting music score as well, with the kind of songs one would not mind listening to in a restaurant over food, and then leaving them on the sieve of memory.
Hey, not everything is fair and fine with this film, which is all about a married man from India who goes to the U.K. to discover there are other joys of life beyond matrimony. He comes across an old friend who is single and believes there is no greater joy in life than your spouse making you a hot steaming cup of morning tea. The plot is predictable but replete with one-liners that evoke a smile or two and never make you squirm with embarrassment. The story moves easily, the narration is smooth, except there is nothing in the plot to hold it together for long, nothing in the script to demand anything more than cursory attention.
The actors too are in the same category. Sanjay Suri is once again bent on looking good, and staying that way all through. Ditto for Ashish Choudhary, who loses nothing in looks, gains no points with his acting. Yes, there is Mandira Bedi too. She tries hard to look young and desirable. The effort shows. Director Raj Kaushal's Shaadi Ka Laddoo lives up to its name in many ways. It is not the kind of film one would watch and regret, or regret not to have watched. Not quite like oft repeated `shaadi ka laddoo' at all. Instead, it is a delicious digression that leaves a nice aftertaste if you happen to partake of the offering. But then, you don't really miss much if you don't have this feel good dessert at all.
