Mallika's Mall-like house
|
After all, home is where their hearts are, says Mubin Sultan
|
`MID PLEASURES and palaces though we may roam, be it ever so humble, there's no place like home,' said John Howard Payne, in Clari, the Maid of Milan.
Uma Maheswara Rao and his wife Mallika have brought up a creation of their own, which is dear to them as any of their two kids SriTeja and Sumanth.
Adjacent to Sumanth Nursing Home,in Suryaraopet, the abode of this loving and tight-knit family is spick and span and is as fresh as newly built bungalow, covered in the greenery of the creepers that seem to embrace the house with the love watered to them by Mallika, the house looks almost drowned in canopy.
The granite walls on the sides of the gate seem to welcome the visitors with an appeal close to the hospitality of the family. The doors of the entrance with the engrossed pictures and artwork successfully take in any entrant to a mood of appreciating art.
The woodwork in the house with two massive and substantial sofa sets, throw a light on the artistic genius of the artisans in the State.
The woodcraft of India is famous world over, be it the Shahi beds or the Rajput dewans, it stands as a testimony to the religion and history of the country.
Woodwork in Andhra Pradesh is an amalgamation of the traditional and modern ideas; skillful carvings stand as a highlight of Indian woodwork. While the doors and furniture in the house of Uma Maheshwar Rao tend to spare a thought at the richness of the craft here in the country, the very impressive selection of the couple gives an idea of their taste.
Mallika is usually busy with the house, and takes care that it is clean and well maintained. A beautiful Krishna in wood is well placed near the staircase and is a pleasing site. The puja-room is made in special woodwork of teak in a pattern of the Chinese design of stripes and cuts. The wood used is teak and the light from the grand chandeliers makes the smooth and polished surfaces sparkle, thus making the house scintillating.
The family is often busy as Uma Maheshwara Rao, a doctor, has a flow of patients all day in his adjacent clinic and SriTeja and Sumanth are enthusiastic students who can hardly dare to spare any vacant and idle hours. But, as Marcus Tullius Cicero, once said, no place is more delightful than one's own fireplace, not the fireplace for sure, but the family loves spending time together and exchange their experiences and discuss their schedules.
Suiting to the mood, the bedrooms are different with beds, which are artistic in a different setting and are metallic. The garlanded and framed, bejewelled paintings of Krishna add a touch of divinity to the home.
A rich swing in the top floor of the duplex house takes anyone to a land of pensive moments, immediately after gliding softly into it.
The family also enjoys collecting ethnic stuff and has a lovable collection of ceramic stuff.
No matter how busy, the family cannot miss spending time at the sweet home once a while.
