All night long...

The annual Music-care-2004 saw Jollee Abraham and his team enthral the city's gospel-music buffs

FANCY PEOPLE carrying bedsheets and pillows to a music concert. Every year, the Music-care Cultural and Charitable Trust (MCCT), founded by singer Jollee Abraham, gives gospel-music buffs a reason to do "such a crazy thing."

The MCCT's annual concert is always a late-night thing - starting at 6 p.m. and stretching till 6 a.m. the next day. All the four concerts so far have been held at the Christ Church campus on Mount Road.

Though Christian songs are rendered, the Music-care concerts are as secular as can be. Star singers from the film industry lend their support to the event, because the MCCT provides financial and other assistance to the less privileged.

The star line-up at Music-care-2004, held recently, included Unni Menon, L.R. Easwari, Vani Jayaram, Krishnaraj and the inimitable K.J. Yesudas.

The team of gospel singers comprised Jollee Abraham, Hema John, Shanthi Solomon, Catherine and Reverend Paul Thangaiah. `Dindugal' Leoni's role as Master of Ceremonies added to the mood. He cracked many jokes and sang a few gospel numbers, for good measure.

However, no marks for guessing who the star of the evening was. As with the other Music-care concerts, this time too Yesudas had the crowd rocking. He sent them into a flutter of excitement with two all-time popular Tamil gospel songs - `Santhosam Ponguthe' and `Yesu Azhaikirar.' Not a few in the crowd trilled, "what a voice!"

Many organisations and individuals were helped, in money and kind.
