At the Pondicherry Crafts Fair, there's a wide variety of eco-friendly artefacts to choose from
|
THE ECO-friendly craft items, created by small producer groups and individual craftspersons from five southern States, on display at the Pondicherry Handicrafts Fair (Good Shepherd Hall, No. 2, Kodambakkam High Road) and SIPA Crafts Link, (70, Kodambakkam High Road) make affordable and attractive gift options.
The ingenuity of the craftspersons comes through in various lifestyle objects made out of palmyrah leaf, grass, wood, dried flowers, clay and paper. Ceramic tea and coffee sets, mugs and jugs from Pondicherry in muted hues, aromatic candles embellished with dried flowers, clay and bead jewellery - there's plenty to choose from at both the venues. Besides, there are stone artefacts, Ganeshas and recycled stationery items such as handcrafted gift wrapping paper and coasters.
If the Pondicherry fair offers marbled paper lamp shades, educational toys and hand massage items, Crafts Link has on display lacquer and vegetable dyed etikopakka home accessories, Chennapatna toys, palm leaf bags, boxes, sandalwood icons from Mysore as well as a choice of bronze and brass icons.
The Pondicherry Fair concludes on May 23.
