Some cars, like good wine, get better with age
|
SOME CARS appreciate in value as they get older. The E-Type Jaguar is a highly coveted car and its appeal is so great that car lovers would want to own it at any cost.
The E-Type Jaguar in the picture was imported into the country by the former Maharajkumar of Gondal. It was built in 1969 and is a Series II model. The Jaguar is a coupe model (two-seater) and has a 4.2-litre engine. It has six cylinders and three SU Carburettors.
The E-Type Jaguar has been restored and is in running condition. It is capable of reaching a top speed of 150 mph. (240 kmph.).
The Maharajkumar of Gondal was very keen on motor racing.
He had a fleet of cars and loved to participate in races at Sholvaram and Bangalore.
Years after he stopped racing the car, it began to lie idle in the Maharaja's palace near the Cantonment station.
The Maharaja was under a lot of pressure as buyers made appealing offers for the racing beauty. Gondal resisted many an offer, but with maintenance costs sky-rocketing, he had no choice but to sell his most valuable possession.
The Maharaja was finally convinced that one of the potential buyers would restore the car and value it greatly. The deal was struck, and car moved to its present owner, who incidentally has spent hours on acquiring parts for the car and keeping it in peak condition.
Some years ago, the Maharaja went to see his former jewel, and he was very happy that the car was being cared for and valued.
