Bangalore motor racing is witnessing a downtrend

Speed racing: Yelahanka and Jakkur airstrips had been used for the speed runs. Cars from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and India have burnt rubber over the laps at the speed runs.
Motor rallies: The famous test of endurance, the K 1000, used to run over a 1,000 km all- over-highways in the State. Gradually, this race has been reduced to run over 250 km.
Hill climb: Nandi Hills, with its hair-pin bends, was a great location for the Hill Climb event. Cars and bikes screeched on the bends and comparative timings were used to decide the winner.
Motocross: This is very popular presently with dirt-tracks being constructed to have bikers flying over table-tops, whoop de do's, and berms. The Palace ground is a popular location.
Autocross: Similar to the motocross with two cars racing simultaneously on a track similar to the one designed at Langley Park in Australia. Cars race over and under a bridge and switch tracks so that both drivers run along similar conditions. Raises huge clouds of dust, but all wear face masks and enjoy themselves.
Drag races: Held recently at Jakkur. Foreign cars and bikes were a stellar attraction. Crowds of over 10,000 people thronged to witness the event.
