New Seetharam serial

Malebillu explores the lives of three sisters


THE POPULAR film director, T.N. Seetharam, is presenting a new Kannada serial, Malebillu, by Bhoomika, on ETV Kannada, from May 31. The serial, to be aired between Monday and Friday, 2.30 p.m., is directed by M.N. Jayanth.

Mallebillu explores the making and unmaking of human relationships and the efforts of human beings to seek contentment in different social contexts. It outlines the lives of three sisters, their notions of and experiences in relationships, their aspirations, disappointments, and efforts to draw meaning in their lives.

Prajna, who is "already" 33 years of age, is involved in her profession, architecture. She is apparently not keen on marriage. Does her disinclination arise out of her intense interest in the profession or does she like to be on her own, or is she anxious that she may not find the right companion? While her parents are anxious about her "state", how does Prajna resolve the question of marriage?

Pranati, her married sister, has a six-year-old. She is contented by begins to feel lonely as her husband has been abroad for two years now. She copes with the help of her in-laws who understand her emotional needs. Her husband is to return on the occasion of their ninth wedding anniversary.

Will she feel happy about his arrival or will she be anxious that time may have changed them both?

Pallavi, the third sister, is very alive and active. She is the one who brings cheer in the family. She is interested in research. She seeks intellectual companionship and sees one in a professor who is married. Does this relationship work, and in the eyes of the people, is "what she does" right? How does she confront such pressures?

The music for the serial has been scored by Parveen Godkhindi while Sangeetha Katti has rendered the songs. Camera work has been done by R. Manjunath, editing by Krishna Urs, the story and dialogues by M.N. Jayanth, Aarti Venkatesh, and Asha K.S..

The serial stars Veena Sunder, Hema Bellur, Shilpa Iyer, Anil Kamath, Huliwan Gangadhariah, Padma Kumta, Vidya Venkatram, Venktadri, Kalpana Nagnath and Shashikumar.
