R. Balaji discovers Bhaskar studio to have the best of photo printing technologies in coastal Andhra.

WORRIED WITH the graininess of your family's old photographs in the album? Well! you could capture those nostalgic moments once again in vibrant modes with the world class laser technology launched by city-based Bhaskar Digital Studios. "An old hat'' in the photography business, the studio located on the Museum Road, has introduced the technology the first of its kind in coastal Andhra. Presently only Hyderabad could boast of having such a technology in the State. The Rs 75-lakh AGFA d-TFS (total film scanning) equipment imported from Germany promises a wide range of imaging solutions and options to the customers.

According to T. Krishnamurthy, managing partner of the studios, the equipment automatically analyses and adjusts pictures for colour sharpness, contrast and exposure. It delivers consistent print production quality and unmatched first-run print rate. "While the existing equipment is capable of producing 1,100 prints at a stretch, the new machine can generate 1,700 copies,'' says Y. Prasad, partner of the studio.

It can print formats ranging from a wallet size to that of a 8'' X 12'' enlargement, create films on CDs, digital files on CD-Rom, instant passport photos, prints with text or decorative models, prints from digital cameras and prints from 135, APS, 110 and 120 film formats. The new machine, he says, can get the prints from black-white, colour negatives, slides, digital and smart chips. Another advantage is that the entire roll of the film, which comprises 38 photos, can be inserted in the new machine and scanned in just a few minutes.

The photo print can be saved in CDs for posterity.

The technology would be very useful for occasions like marriages as several copies can be stored in different CDs apart from the original negatives, points out Mr. Prasad. One of the oldest studio in the State, Bhaskar Studios, which has a branch at Labbipet and Mangalagiri town, was established in 1978 at Museum Road. Since then, it has been making rapid strides in the field of photography catering to a wide range of clientle. In December 1999, the studio installed Sienna FP 5000 a digital printer which enables the printing of 12'' prints in minutes and digitally desgined invitation cards, business cards, greeting cards and enlargement works. According to Krishnamurthy, more than five years ago it was Bhaskar Studio which pioneered the introduction of advanced equipment in the coastal districts like "Nortis 1701,'' "Durst Epsilon Plus'' with fibre optic technology which has the potential to produce prints ranging from 30 inches to an incrdibly large 279 feet.

"At a time when most other studios are content with conventional photography, we introduced ultra-modern technology in the field and are in a position to give old photographs brand new looks,'' says Krishnamurthy with a tinge of pride. Prasad claims that the rates offered by the studio are the most competive in the coastal market. "Either our rates are far less than the market prices or at the most on a par with the competitors,'' he says.According to him, with the help of the new equipment the studio would be in a position to offer 16 passport photographs for just Rs 30.
