Noble minds, humble hearts

THE LADY in a blue sari flaunting her charm, complimented by her elegant necklace embedded with snow-white pearls which glistened in sync with her captivating smile, walked in the shadow of love, warmth and care offered by her husband.

Satish, a businessman and dealer for Kirloskar, and his wife and best friend, Sarita, embellished the ambience at the Blue Fox-Bar and Restaurant. The place offered an excellent proportion of art, beauty and hospitality where a hungry person was feasted on a more-than-satisfying meal. The sleek and stylish aquarium with fish of various colours to suit the moods of the entrants was eye-catching. A well-blend collection of native and exotic art material ranging from the Rajasthani woodcraft to the trendy crystal works stood as a declaration of the taste of the people visiting the place regularly.

A native of Vijayawada, Satish did a part of his schooling in Ooty, sharing the experience of a different approach to study which is a unique feature offered by schools in hill areas. "I had the privilege to enjoy artistry and creativity as the school curriculum included carpentry, embroidery, horse-riding, archery etc.," says Satish.

Sarita, a student of Sidhartha Mahila Kalasala, enjoys putting into practice the values taught to her by her college, with regard to women empowerment. She is the fund-raising convener for the Ladies Circle, and is a committed social worker. "I love my job. It gives me an opportunity to serve people while helping me get rid of monotony," she says. "She manages it so well and is equally active and participating at home," Satish chips in.

One cannot be sure if theirs is an arranged marriage. Sarita, interestingly though, denies having met Satish prior to their engagement while he claims to have courted her for over a year. A peace-loving couple, they haven't ever encountered any misunderstanding during their 10 years of marital bliss. "There hadn't been any unpleasant situation unless I tried to create one for a change," says Satish with a chuckle.

Managing their family business of over five decades, Satish feels proud of being able to handle it well. "My job demands interaction with farmers and that's the best part of it," he says while giving a gist of his study on their honest, unblemished and almost angelic disposition. A person with a soft corner for the aged, Satish also manages to take time out for the elder citizens of a home for the aged, run by Little Sisters for the Poor.

With busy schedules and kids who keep them engaged, Satish and Sarita enjoy chilling out with friends at their favourite haunt, the Vijayawada Club. "We love travelling and have been to almost all the hill-stations in India," says Sarita. While Nainital is her favourite, Satish enjoys his holidays to Yercaud.

Extremely modest at their eating habits, the couple confesses that they are health conscious. While munching the Vegetable Gold Coins, Shanghai rolls and Phulkas with Palak Paneer and Methi Chaman, they however accept that they enjoy food and are fortunate enough to have the easiest access to junk food in their residential area of I Town.

The duo share a common opinion that Vijayawada harbours immense potential which is craving for recognition. They strongly believe that the city needs development. With noble minds and humble hearts, this winsome pairpresents a delightful treat for a beautiful evening.
