The other DEV the sole KANYA

Pooja Ghai Rewal.

HE IS the other Dev of television. She is the sole Kanya of the box. Each came into the frame of Kabhi Aaye Na Judaai on Star Plus as replacement. Each is, script-wise, connected to the other with an invisible bond. Each has their takes on their reel and real self to offer. Each has some dreams to harbour, some hopes in the heart, to make a mark.

"I know I am better known as Ajay of Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii and that Dev of Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand is more famous than this musician Dev of Kabhi Aaye... . But if you ask me whether they are real characters, then both Ajay and Dev are. Also, lot that has happened in their lives has touched my real life too. And so, I could easily identify with each of these roles," the real Ajay and Dev, Prabhat Bhattacharya says.

Pooja Ghai Rewal, known to us as Kanya of Kabhi Aaye ... and to the kids as Jasmine of Hatim on Star Plus again, too finds too many things in these roles similar to her personal self.

"Kanya is a family person, she is a working woman. I too fall in that category. Jasmine's character too is very dear to me because all of us have this childhood fantasy of becoming a pari (fairy) one day and here I have succeeded," she says. Pooja hails from a family where arclights are nothing new as her late father was a secretary to actors like Sadashiv Amrapurkar, Aroona Irani, Rakesh Bedi, and Kamya Malhotra, and her brother is at present Chief Assistant Director for Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin on Sony TV. After starring in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Kabhi Sautan Kabhi Saheli and Dishayen, television, is not a new medium for her any more.

But Prabhat describes himself as "a village boy, born and brought up in a small town 60 kms from Jamshedpur" who arrived in Mumbai with a dream to be fulfilled.

Prabhat Bhattacharya.

"Though I used to do lot of street plays and conduct theatre workshops, my real work started off as 9th Assistant to Anand Mahendroo. Then, I worked with him as an actor in his shows like Idhar Udhar and Daddy Samjha Karo. But once I cleared audition for Ajay's role in the Balaji Telefilms' Kahaani ... my face began to be recognised," Prabhat elaborates. Of course then, there was no stopping him. Koi Apna Sa, Manzil Apni Apni, Kya Haadsaa Kya Haqueeqat, Kahin To Milenge, Shhh... Koi Hai, Aap Beti, Kahani Saat Pheron Ki and the Monday to Thursday afternoon soap Kabhi Aaye... . This martial art expert still adds, "Given a chance, I would like to go back to theatre. But then, you need to earn for your living too."

Certain roles, he says, he at times ponders, he should have been doing. "But if you ask me what is my dream role, then Dilip Kumar's part in Ganga Jamuna is something I intensely crave for," Prabhat adds.

Though working for 13-hour shifts almost all days in a week, Pooja too craves for roles "that are not so louder than life." Though, she adds, "But I am not complaining."

Be it TV, films or theatre, both are, however, sure about one point. With acting shall not come any separation, with lights, camera and action, let Kabhi Aaye Na Judaai. Good luck.
