Politics and Students

MONEY and muscle power have come to play a prominent role even in college elections. Students should join politics. But, for that to happen, the prevailing atmosphere has to change for the better. The need of the hour is a group of young and dynamic students who can follow the lofty ideals set by our great leaders.

VOTERS are fed up with ageing politicians. They want to see young, energetic people in positions of power. For that, youth should be encouraged to join politics. As for students, they must first concentrate on their studies. As they are still not very mature, there are chances for them to be misled by self-serving politicians. But, once they complete their studies and settle down in a profession, they will be able to take a rational decision.

IT is high time students actively took part in politics. They can bring in refreshing changes to the muchmaligned political system. Only students can cleanse the system with their thought and action. But in this age of lucrative job offers, students are finding it diffi- cult to change their mindset and engage themselves in the national cause.

AFTER Mani Ratnam's Yuva (Aayitha Ezhuthu in Tamil), people, especially students, are looking at politics as a career option. To start with, students should take part in social activities and work for community welfare.

STUDENTS should know about politics but not enter it till they complete their graduation. Now, we witness violence during college union elections. If politics were to make an entry in campuses, it will mark the end of discipline. Remember the famous quote by Johnson, "politics is last resort of the scoundrels."

AS political parties determine the destiny of the country, students must take stock of the changes taking place in the political arena everyday. A close watch will help them identify genuine workers.

STUDENT leader Srinivasan created history by defeating then Chief Minister Kamaraj in the Assembly elections.

But what were his achievements after that? The IT boom has made students forget politics, at least to some extent.

But, good things do not seem to last long. Some films tend to drag them to politics.

This is not a healthy development. Not every student can become a successful politician.

AS pandemonium is the order of the day in present-day politics, students should stay away from it. If students are really concerned about society, they can join the NSS, NCC or other social service fora. Success in both academics and politics is possible only in the movies.

EDUCATION is the basic foundation for a better career. However, participating in college union elections will help students develop leadership qualities. Moreover, the country needs young and dynamic youth; not politicians in their "second-childhood".

STUDENTS have the guts and calibre to face the rumble and tumble of politics. It is impossible for all students in the country to come together under a single banner and contest polls. So, senior politicians should encourage students to enter politics. Unless they pave the way for the young brigade, it will not be possible to usher in change. But, will any King give up his throne?

OF late, there has been a lot of interest in politics among the student community. Demonstrations and agitations, a direct fallout of student politics, tend to vitiate the congenial atmosphere in the campus. Besides causing a lot of inconvenience to students, it impedes their overall personality development.

IT is common knowledge that children are moulded into mature adults during their student days. Politicians do succeed in making a section of the students take the plunge into politics, but a student's aim should always be on acquiring knowledge.

STUDENTS' interest in politics has come down considerably in recent times. One of the main reasons for this is that parents do not encourage their children to take part in social service activities. The time taken to reach the top in politics is rather high, and so, many prefer to stay away.

INVOLVEMENT of students in politics promotes team spirit and helps acquire leadership qualities. But, all this should not be at the cost of studies.

POLITICS today is full of experienced, ageing `warriors'! It is time we gave young and dynamic leaders an opportunity. The best way to promote this is by giving `student politics' its due share. However, students should be trained properly right from their formative days.
