Food with a cricket flavour

The dιcor, the food serving counter and the menu too, at Allrounder, bring to you the heady feeling of a cricket match

INDIA EATS, lives, and breathes cricket. The amount of funds this game gets, triggers of a national debate. Seeking to cash in on this craze for the game is a small venture by a former cricketer, P.V. Mohan, who in association with Ramsy Pimenta, has started an exclusive chicken eatery, Allrounder, near Pumpwell Circle, opposite Capitanio High School along the Bangalore-Mangalore National Highway 48.

This restaurant was inaugurated by the former Indian stumper, and the present Chairman of Indian selection committee, S.M.H. Kirmani, recently. Everything about the restaurant reflects the game in all its diversity. The decor, the menu, the cash and food serving counter, takes one back to the heady feeling the game evokes. Perhaps, it is an apt reflection of the general perception that anything to do with the game of cricket sells!

Dwelling on the spirit behind this venture, Mr. Mohan says the place offers any visitor a range of chicken dishes to suit their taste and preferences. He points out that the main idea behind starting a theme restaurant, so to state, is his undiminished love for the game, with which he has been associated with for the past 20 years. Why the name? The all rounders leave an indelible mark on the game, and so the name, explains Mr. Mohan. Players such as Gary Sobers, Richard Hadlee, Kapil Dev, Ian Botham, W.G. Grace, Andrew Flintoff, Vinoo Mankad are cult figures for ardent followers of the game. A restaurant sans the cricket theme would have been an extremely difficult proposition to sell as the city has eateries competing with each other, he notes. Novelty in starting a mundane business is a must in the present day competitive world, Mr. Mohan adds.

Is Allrounder any different from other eateries? Mr. Mohan reveals that exquisite chicken dishes from the various cricket-playing nations are a novelty and most ardent lovers of the dish cannot but help notice. So it could be the jerk chicken from the land of the Caribbeans or the famous and spicy coconut chicken curry from Sri Lanka, one can taste it all here. The only difference is that these dishes have been Indianised.

A view of the food counter

Even the menu has been completely redone in cricket lingo. So if you are looking for starters, there are openers, want a quick bite or one for the road, there is the pinch hitter, want a full course of chicken delicacies, try the master blaster, or want some quite chicken meal, turn to the middle overs. You can also bite into your favourite cricketers with Krish Chicken. Want the Hyderabadi flavour, then go for Chicken VVS. The accent is also on hygiene and variety. Healthy food is the need of the hour and variety in the form of Sehwag Surprise, an omelette dish prepared in North India is bound to stump you. One can also taste chicken grilled, barbecued or taken hot from a tandoor. ''Chicken has no religion'', notes Mr. Mohan and adds the location of the outlet, not too far from the city, yet a rich place to attract the floating population is just right.#Mr. Mohan notes the prices at his outlet are priced just right for the people. Moreover, with attendants dressed in spotless white cricketing flannels, this is a must visit place for chicken and cricket lovers. Allrounder is also providing free door delivery to people within 3-kms from the eatery. Call 2431547 for the same. Mr. Mohan says Allrounder will also look at picking up small party orders in the near future.
