The feel good factor

Rediscover the magic of relationships through this unusual portal

Surekha Guptan

THE WORLD is a good place for most people, most of the time. Yet for some, the detached and unconscious slide into a withdrawn world lays stress on relationships with others and most importantly with the self. Although agony aunt columns and counsellors suggest a way out, many are still uncomfortable to talk with clinical psychologists or take recourse from a mail-order magazine.

It is for people like these that the website, imeandyou.com comes as a lifesaver. Designed and hosted by the husband-wife duo, Sunil and Surekha Guptan, the new portal is on managing relationships.

"It has sensible things on the little nuances of life. Not necessarily medical counselling but more on how you can approach your problem," says Surekha. "We named the website `I, me and you' because people constantly live in two environments - one that is external and the other that is internal and connected with the self."

Developing this service oriented site was a challenge for Surekha who moved out of a successful career in advertising and content writing to work with bringing up her daughter. Having served with Mudra Communications and Sista's Advertising, her background in Psychology, Literature and Communication and her volunteer work with Roshni and the Make-A-Wish Foundation stood her in good stead when scripting for the web. And Sunil who holds a doctorate in organisational behaviour helped sustain her interest.

While other relationship channels centre on dating and love and have gone commercial, imeandyou.com helps in building, maintaining and carrying forward relationships successfully with tips on becoming your own problem solver by tapping one's own emotional intelligence. Better relationships with children, with parents and spouses and feng shui tips also find mention.

The section featuring parenting, psychological hugs that deals with `feeling good' and the relationship tunnel where one can play different roles and view relationships from diverse points are unique.

"Our advice is not passing judgment but enabling the person to do the best in the circumstances," says Surekha. "The skill tests designed by my husband are beneficial but the score depends on the

personality, attitude and mood of the person taking the test."

With colours that quieten the mind and a voice that calms your fears the site is definitely one that is different from the many that crowd the server talking of little else than what to do on a first date.

But why would anyone with a successful career turn to volunteering advice through this media? "It gives me tremendous satisfaction," says Surekha "and helping others helps me."

Sometimes that feel good factor is from within.
