All hopes on `anniyan'
THIS SUMMER Vikram had lost some ground to Vijay. While Vikram's Arul met with an average success, Vijay's Gilli (remake from Okkadu) turned out to be a smash hit. Interestingly Telugu producers made both the films. T. Ajay Kumar son of veteran producer-director Tatineni Ramarao made Arul and A.M. Rathnam produced Gilli. Now Vikram is pinning all hopes on Shankar's mega venture, Anniyan. Shankar says that there is no fantasy element in the movie but it has a socially relevant theme. He says to bring the audiences to the theatres today one has to give them an extravagant fare and that speaks for the budget of his films. And Vikram's dream is to work with two great directors of Tamil cinema - Shankar and Manirathnam. He feels after working with these two filmmakers it doesn't matter even if he retires. Vikram is one actor who is successfully balancing his career with experimental roles (Sethu, Kasi and Pitamagan) as well as kitsch commercial formula characters (Dhool, Gemini and Sami). And there is a long innings ahead.
